LANGUAGE & SCRIPTS PROMOTION SCHOLARSHIP

The Language & Scripts Promotion Scholarship is a unique initiative aimed at preserving, revitalizing, and promoting the rich linguistic and scriptural heritage of India, especially focusing on regional, classical, and minority languages along with their ancient and indigenous scripts.

This scholarship supports students, researchers, and cultural practitioners who are engaged in the study, documentation, research, teaching, or creative use of these languages and scripts.

  • Students (Undergraduates & Graduates), researchers, or independent scholars
    working in the field of language documentation, translation, script learning,
    digitization, or literary creation.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a serious academic or cultural interest in one or more
    of the listed languages or scripts.
  • Projects such as dictionary compilation, grammar development, folklore
    preservation, digital font creation, or educational material preparation are
    encouraged
Language Support Includes:
  • Classical Languages: Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian, Pali, Prakrit
  • Regional Languages: Urdu, Punjabi, Dogri, Pahari, Kashmiri, Ladakhi
  • Tribal & Indigenous Languages: Gojri, Bhotia, Bhili, and others
  • Endangered or Minority Languages recognized by the state or UNESCO
Script Support Includes
  • Scripts Supported Include:
  • Takri (used in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and parts of Uttarakhand)
  • Sharda (ancient script of Kashmir)
  • Brahmi (mother script of many Indian languages)
  • Kharoshthi (ancient script used in Gandhara region)
  • Modi, Mahajani, Kaithi, Grantha, and other lesser-known North Indian scripts
  • Gurmukhi, Devanagari, Nastaliq, and other script variants in practical or cultural
    us
  • Annual or one-time financial assistance for study, research, or project development
  • Access to linguistic mentors, script experts, and scholars
  • Funding for fieldwork, workshops, archival visits, or script training
  • Opportunities to present work at conferences, language festivals, or cultural
    exhibitions
  • Publication support for exceptional research or creative outputs
  • Financial aid for language courses or studies
