Introduction

DAFER (Dr. Azad Foundation for Education & Research) is a dynamic and visionary nongovernmental organization (NGO) dedicated to advancing educational and social development in India. Rooted in the belief that education is the foundation for social transformation, DAFER works at the intersection of knowledge, empowerment, and equity. The organization is committed to providing inclusive opportunities for academic growth, research advancement, career development, and community enrichment. Through a network of innovative programs and partnerships, DAFER seeks to foster a more just, informed, and progressive society.

Meaning

The acronym DAFER represents the full name of the organization—Dr. Azad Foundation for Education & Research. But beyond its name, DAFER stands for a movement that aims to liberate minds from ignorance, uplift the underprivileged through education, and inspire a culture of learning, service, and social responsibility. The organization envisions an India where every individual—regardless of social, economic, or geographical barriers—has access to quality education, meaningful employment, and an empowered voice in society.

Mission Statements

“To build an inclusive, educated, and empowered society through academic excellence, research-driven solutions, skill development, and community outreach.”

DAFER believes that sustainable development begins with education and expands through active civic engagement and research-based policymaking. It seeks to bridge the gaps between formal education and practical life skills, between academia and real-world challenges, and between knowledge and justice.

Our Work in Action

DAFER’s programs are spread across urban, semi-urban, and rural geographies, particularly in underserved regions where educational infrastructure is lacking. Its grassroots approach allows it to work directly with students, teachers, families, and communities to identify needs and implement sustainable solutions.

Educational Programs

DAFER runs free and subsidized coaching classes for school and college students, especially those from marginalized communities. Bridge courses, remedial education, competitive exam preparation, and digital learning tools are part of this initiative. Mobile education vans, community learning centers, and scholarship drives extend support to students who otherwise lack access to basic education.

Research and Capacity Building

The Foundation encourages young scholars, teachers, and researchers to engage in socially relevant research. It provides fellowships and mentorship opportunities, especially in areas such as educational reform, cultural studies, and regional development. DAFER also publishes newsletters, research journals, and case studies that contribute to academic discourse and grassroots policymaking.

Skill Development and Employability

Understanding the gap between formal education and employability, DAFER has initiated multiple vocational and life-skills training programs. From basic computer literacy to advanced training in data entry, graphic design, handicrafts, and digital marketing, youth— especially school dropouts and first-generation learners—are given hands-on training. Regular job fairs and placement assistance programs help candidates secure employment.

Social and Cultural Empowerment

DAFER promotes harmony, pluralism, and civic awareness through art, culture, and dialogue. Programs include interfaith events, awareness drives on the Constitution and fundamental duties, and workshops on ethics and values. The Foundation also supports artisans and craftspeople by organizing exhibitions, marketing platforms, and cooperative development.

Guiding Values and Principles

  • Inclusivity: DAFER works with communities across religion, caste, class, and gender divisions to promote equal opportunities.
  • Empowerment: Rather than charity, the focus is on empowerment through education, employment, and awareness.
  • Sustainability: Projects are designed for long-term impact, with capacity-building at the core.
  • Collaboration: The Foundation partners with educational institutions, civil society, government departments, and international agencies to expand its reach and resources.
  • Transparency and Accountability: All activities are documented, evaluated, and aligned with the organization’s ethical and legal commitments.

Since its inception, DAFER has impacted thousands of students and families across districts in Gujarat and adjoining states. Hundreds of students have successfully passed competitive exams with its coaching support. Dozens of artisans, women, and youth have been trained and linked to employment. Its community libraries and reading campaigns have revived a love for learning among children in remote villages.

Researchers supported by DAFER have published important work on local languages, migration, minority rights, and educational inequalities. Through cultural dialogues and academic forums, DAFER has promoted a voice of unity and reform in diverse spaces
